Long Jump Runway Refurbishment

AMD Sport Services completed a comprehensive refurbishment of an existing athletics facility, transforming a deteriorated long jump and pole vault area into a modern, high-performance training facility.

The project commenced with the removal of the existing surface, base construction and landing pit materials. Following excavation works, a new sub-base was installed to provide a stable foundation for the facility. A porous concrete base was then constructed to ensure long-term durability, structural integrity and effective drainage.

Due to past issues with tree routes affecting the area we dug a trench the entire length of the runway and installed a top of the line route barrier system to gently guide away any future route growth from the runway.

A new resin-bound EPDM athletics surface was installed throughout the runway area, providing a high-quality, hard-wearing finish suitable for school use. The facility was then professionally line marked to create seven individual runway lanes, with dedicated long jump and triple jump take-off markings applied in alternating colours for clear event identification and ease of use.

In addition to the runway refurbishment, a new pole vault landing area and trough system were installed to enhance the range of athletics disciplines available at the site.

To complete the project, the landing pit was filled with 20 tonnes of UK Athletics-approved silica sand, providing a safe and compliant landing surface for both long jump and triple jump activities, and topped off with a HUGE 15m x 8m weighted landing pit cover.
